Murcia-Cartagena train restarts, two months later
Work on the Riquelme-Sucina and La Palma-Pozo Estrecho sections have finished, and normal train operations resume
As of this Tuesday September 24, Spanish rail operator Renfe is reestablishing the train service between Murcia city and Cartagena.
Due to work that railways manager Adif was carrying out on the section of track between Riquelme-Sucina and La Palma-Pozo Estrecho to build a ‘high-speed platform’, there has been a bus replacement service in place between Murcia and Cartagena since August 2.
That now comes to an end.
The final bus replacement services for this route will be the 5.09am Cartagena-Murcia service (bus at 4.45am) and the Cartagena-Valencia service, departing at 6.45am from Cartagena, on Tuesday September 24. All subsequent services will be by train as usual.
The Murcia-Cartagena ‘Proximidad’ trains run back and forth between the two cities 10 times a day on weekdays, and on Saturdays and Sundays there are 6 trains in each direction.
In 2023, Renfe launched its ‘Proximidad’ rail services for short- to medium-length journeys.
Renfe has thanked Murcia and Cartagena passengers for their understanding during the alternative transport plan over the last couple of months.
