October 30: Free A cappella concert in Cartagena with Sonrisas Harmony
The women’s choir performs a modern repertoire at the Fundación Mediterráneo from 8pm
The women’s A cappella choir Sonrisas Harmony will fill Cartagena with music on Friday October 30 for its Autumn Harmony Night, a free concert that’s open to everyone.
The show starts at 8pm at the Fundación Mediterráneo on Calle Mayor 11 and features a vibrant, modern repertoire, with mostly contemporary songs and a few classics thrown in. The choir sings in four-part harmony, which means no instruments, just lead, baritone, bass and tenor voices.
Sonrisas Harmony began in September 2022, when fifteen women living in the Region of Murcia who loved to sing formed a social club. It has since grown to more than 30 members from a variety of countries and is led by musical director Valerie Lynch from the USA, a vocal coach and adjudicator who spent more than 20 years touring as a guest artist with orchestras across her home country.
The group performed in the opening show of the Spanish Barbershop Convention in April 2023, becoming the first non-barbershop chorus to take part in one of Europe’s biggest A cappella contests. It also gives concerts around Los Alcázares, San Javier and elsewhere in Murcia, often to packed audiences with standing room only.
New members are always welcome. Singing experience isn’t needed and nobody is ever asked to sing alone, and the choir can also be booked for events.
