Spring has sprung… a leak: Spain's first day of spring drenched by Storm Martinho

Winter refuses to leave quietly as torrential rain soaks Spain, but April’s forecast promises a sizzling comeback

Yesterday marked the first official day of Spring - a time when we expect blooming flowers, chirping birds, and the gentle warmth of the sun coaxing us outdoors. But in Spain, Mother Nature had other plans. Instead of a gentle transition into spring, we were greeted by Storm Martinho, the fourth tempest in just twelve days which brought with it torrential rain, wild gusts, and a general sense of betrayal.

As Martinho barrelled across the country, it seemed as though winter was having one last laugh. Rain poured relentlessly, turning streets into rivers and making umbrellas our constant companions. In many southern regions, the deluge led to severe flooding, reminding us that nature often has a mischievous sense of humour .

But fear not, fellow sun-seekers, for April promises a dramatic turnaround. Meteorologists predict that temperatures will rise, ushering in the warmth we've been craving. It's as if Spain is making up for lost time, offering us a sun-soaked reprieve after weeks of wet and wild weather.

So, as we wade through the remnants of Martinho's mischief, let's keep our spirits high and our sunglasses handy. After all, spring has officially sprung, and brighter, warmer days are just around the corner.
