This is the poorest town in Murcia with an annual income of just €18k
On the flip side, the richest Murcia town brings in a whopping €31,755 per year

The financial situation of households varies widely across Spain, with families living closer to large cities or industrial estates usually faring better. Traditionally, the Region of Murcia has been an attractive destination for investors and holidaymakers thanks in part to its relatively low cost of living compared to many other parts of Spain. But how do the wages match up?
The Tax Agency has just published an overview of the average gross salary of towns with more than 1,000 residents based on income tax returns, and the shocking news is that not a single town in the Region of Murcia falls into the ‘high income’ bracket.
The city of Murcia has a gross average income of €29,692, which is fairly modest considering the rate of inflation and house prices, but this makes it the second richest in the Region. Molina de Segura actually comes in above the capital, with an income of €31,755.
Meanwhile, Cartagena stands at €28,090 and San Javier at €26,844, on average. Unsurprisingly, there is a significant gap between these salaries and the richest municipalities in Spain. The ranking is led by Pozuelo de Alarcón, located in the Community of Madrid, with a whopping average income of €85,323.
Trailing the pack is Ricote, officially the poorest town in Murcia. Here, the average annual income before tax is just €18,492.
It’s followed by Albudeite and Moratalla, with averages of €18,630 and €18,845, respectively. Campos del Río is also among the poorest, with an income of €19,593.
Mazarrón and Fortuna also fall below the €20,000 average. Their incomes are €19,649 and €19,743, respectively.
