The biggest and best Christmas markets in Spain for 2025
From the traditional market in Madrid's Plaza Mayor to the new A Coruña stalls, Christmas shoppers are spoiled for choice in Spain

Christmas in Spain is always a feast for the senses and one of the most charming traditions is the arrival of the seasonal markets that take over city squares and historic streets.
Many travellers dream of wandering through the Christmas markets of Vienna or Dresden, but the truth is that anyone in Spain can experience the same festive magic without ever leaving the country. From traditional stalls in the heart of Madrid to a completely renewed market in A Coruña, Spain offers some of the most atmospheric Christmas fairs in Europe.
Madrid and its legendary Plaza Mayor market
Christmas in Madrid never feels complete without a visit to the famous market in Plaza Mayor. Each year this iconic square transforms into a bright and bustling space filled with colour, lights and rows of festive stalls. Visitors can browse decorative ornaments, seasonal treats and all kinds of Christmas essentials while soaking up the atmosphere.
The 2025 edition opened on Thursday November 27 and will welcome visitors until New Years Eve. This year’s event features 104 stalls run by local Madrid businesses, giving shoppers the opportunity to discover unique seasonal items created by skilled artisans.
Sevilla and its remarkable Nativity Scene Fair
In Sevilla, one of the most distinctive Christmas markets in Spain takes place between the cathedral and the Archivo de Indias. Organised by the Association of Nativity Scene Merchants, this fair stands out not only for its location between two UNESCO World Heritage sites but also for its sole focus on Nativity scene figures. These handcrafted pieces are true works of art and attract collectors and Christmas enthusiasts from all over the country.
For 2025, the 10 stalls opened on Saturday November 8 and will remain open until Christmas Eve. Weekday opening hours run from 10.30am until 2pm and again from 5pm to 9pm. On weekends and holidays the fair stays open a little longer, giving visitors more time to enjoy the displays.
Barcelona and the charm of the Santa Lucia Fair

Barcelona comes alive with several Christmas markets each year, but none are more exciting than the historic Santa Lucia Fair near the cathedral. Dating back to the 18th century, it is the oldest market of its kind in the city and continues to delight visitors with its warm and traditional atmosphere.
The fair is best known for its beautiful Nativity scene figures. These handcrafted pieces are admired for their detail and artistry and are often seen as the heart of the market. Decorative lights bring added charm to the area, making the surroundings feel especially magical during the festive season.
A Coruña unveils a newly renovated Christmas market
One of the most exciting developments for Christmas lovers in 2025 is happening in A Coruña. The city has completely renewed its traditional Christmas village previously located in the María Pita square. The redesigned market opened on November 28 and brings a fresh look to the Galician capital.
Visitors will find attractive wooden stalls filled with gifts and Christmas decorations along with a dedicated food area for anyone who wants to recharge while browsing. A full programme of activities for adults and children adds even more appeal, making it an ideal outing for families and visitors of all ages.
