September 19 to October 4 Annual fiestas of El Mirador in San Javier
A fortnight of celebration in El Mirador, San Javier, with music, food and more
From September 19 to October 4 the village of El Mirador in San Javier comes alive with a packed programme of events, including live performances by top artists, traditional dance shows, fireworks, delicious food and drinks and exciting games and activities for all ages.
The El Mirador fiestas in honour of the Virgen del Rosario actually run from mid-August in honour of the town’s patron saint, but the main events will place from late September onwards.
Highlights of the festival
Friday September 19
19.30: The fairground opens with an evening of migas and a sangría competition, Tables can be reserved by telephone on 658 340296.
22.00: Opening speech and musical entertainment from Huapango.
Saturday September 20
10.30: Children’s water party.
11.00: The “barraca” open-air bar/canteen opens alongside the fair.
22.00: The gala at which the Queens of the Fiestas are elected, followed by firecrackers and a prize draw for a whole lamb!
Sunday September 21
8.00: The annual Antonio “El Sheriff” hike begins at the Centro Cívico. Click for further details.
18.00: A grand raffle at the fairground.
Friday September 26
10.30: Another children’s morning begins with games, music and activities, and the Barraca opens once again.
23.00: Partiendo la Pana offer a tribute concert to Spanish pop group Estopa.
Saturday September 27
10.30: More fun for the children and the Barraca opens again.
18.00: The children’s Carrera de Cintas, dexterity on a bicycle race.
21.00: A big evening at the Barraca, with music in a Rememberfest with guest DJs.
Sunday September 28
9.00: Classic cars and motorcycles display.
18.30: Raffle at the Centro Cívico.
20.30: An evening of Trovos songs at the Centro Cívico.
Thursday October 2
21.30: A gymkhana with the fiestas groups competing over a series of fun and strenuous tests!
Friday October 3
20.00: The Barraca is once again the focal point with plenty of food and music filling the evening.
23.00: Live music from Marty McFly, tunes from the 80s and 90s.
Saturday October 4
11.00: The regular San Javier activity “En tu parque o el mío” comes to the Parque Antonio Luengo.
19.00: Floral offering to the Virgen del Rosario at the Centro Cívico.
19.30: Open-air Mass in honour of the patron with music from the Coros y Danzas del Mar Menor, in the church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario.
21.00: A grand parade of the Huerta while the Barraca continues to provide music and sustenance as the night goes on. A giant barbecue is being held to ened the evening, followed by the traditional dessert of paparajotes.
Midnight: Live flamenco music from Pedro el Flamenkito.

The municipality of San Javier has three main offices giving tourist information to visitors, as well as two information points. The tourist offices are located in Santiago de la Ribera, on the ground floor of the town hall in San Javier and at the start of La Manga. There is also a summer tourist information point located on the seafront in Santiago de la Ribera as well as one at kilometre 12-13 of La Manga del Mar Menor next to Playa Mistral.
Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean, San Javier has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although it is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Tickets for the annual San Javier Jazz Festival can be purchased at the Festival office in San Javier Town Hall, Plaza de España.
